Ted's Story - The story behind the S7 Ted's Trophy
A bit about Ted..... Ted Macdonald (my Godson and son to proud parents Claire and Dean) is an amazing little boy with a truly inspirational story to tell.... Ted was born via an emergency caesarean, after his mum, Claire had a placental abruption, causing him to be starved of oxygen and arriving with a 0 on the Apgar scale (The Apgar score is a simple assessment of how a baby is doing at birth, which helps determine whether your newborn is ready to meet the world without additional medical assistance. An evaluation one minute after your baby is born. Rated on Activity (muscle tone), Pulse (heart rate), Grimace (reflex response), Appearance (colour) and Respiration (breathing) scored from 0-10). We were told things didn’t look good. Ted then spent 5 days on a cooling mat to keep his body temperature down in order to reduce his brain swelling and causing further brain damage. Before he was then closely cared for in intensive care. The work all the staff put in to nurse sick babies back to health is awe-inspiring. Claire and Dean were overwhelmed with the care, and expertise the whole unit showed to help Ted fight his way back from a chance of him not surviving, or suffering long term brain damage to being the amazing little miracle that he is. He endured an extremely difficult first few weeks of his life, and through the support of the exceptional staff, and the ground breaking equipment, at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, he pulled through! Ted will celebrate his fifth birthday in October 2017 and he is a very loveable, smiley, cheeky little chap, filled with joy and happiness. However there can be little doubt that this would not be the case had Ted not received the fantastic care and attention that he did from the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in the first two weeks of his life. So please dig deep and help us raise a lot of money for this truly worthy cause! A bit about S7 and the Macdonald family.... At Search Seven we are extremely passionate about raising money for local charities and contributing to the community, and that is why we donate up to 7% of our annual profits each and every year!! We have taken part in several activities already, whereby we price match donations raised, whether this be us participating as a company, a member of staff, or even simply a donation towards a great cause. As mentioned earlier, Ted is Gavin's Godson, so the TMBU has become the main charity for S7 and as a company, although very small, we strive to do as much as we can to say a big 'thank you' to all at the Baby Unit for all their help and great work they do! None of this would be possible though, without the determination and drive of Ted's parents, Claire and Dean Macdonald. They really are the inspiration (as well as Ted of course) to why we all do so much for the TMBU. They have already organised several fantastic events, rallying the support of family and friends, to raise over £10,000 They are incredibly passionate and plan to continue to organise fun events for years and decades to come....so well done Claire and Dean!! Thanks everyone for your support, and we all looking forward to seeing you on the 23rd May 2017 for the re-match between Search Seven XI & TMBU XI at the AMEX Stadium More info here
